Run Like a Girl!

a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step…

about this blog April 27, 2011

The road to the 2012 Honolulu Marathon begins here. This year is my 7th year running an endurance event as a participant with Team in Training. Each season, I’ve pledged to raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in honor of those battling blood cancers – this year I have pledged to raise $2,500, running in memory of my friend John Kark, who battled both Leukemia and Lymphoma with more heart than anyone could ever have imagined. I also run in honor of survivors, such as my friend Wayne Lee, and so many like him who have truly touched me with their courage and positive spirits in the face of life-threatening illness.

You can make a donation by clicking here. Stay tuned for updates on my training, tips for other runners, and my progress towards my goal. See you at the finish line – December 9, 2012!

Freezing (yet still smiling!) at mile 5-ish of the 2010 Nike Women’s Half Marathon in San Francisco. (Before all the hills took my smile away for a bit…)

If you’d like someone to train with, keep me in mind. I am training for the Portland Marathon in October. I’ve been running in Vibram 5 Fingers, so most of my runs are on the golf course by my home or at the track either at King K or the War Memorial. I ran 7 miles today at the War Memorial, and like that track better because it is a bit softer than the one Upcountry where I normally run on the infield. Eventually, I hope to build up to where I can run on the roads in my new Vibram 5 Fingers shoes.
